President Iohannis promulgates law modifying Romania’s coat of arms

President Klaus Iohannis on Monday signed the decree on the promulgation of the law modifying the country’s coat of arms.

The law for the modification of Law 102/1992 on the country’s coat of arms and state seal provides for the reintroduction of the crown on the head of the golden eagle in Romania’s coat of arms.

According to the law, by December 31, 2018, the public authorities have the obligation to replace the existing coats of arms and seals with their new models.

Until this date, the two coat of arms and seal models can be further used.

Moreover, the coins and banknotes issued by the National Bank of Romania (BNR) prior to December 31, 2018, will continue to circulate after this date, in parallel with the coins and banknotes with the new coat of arms.
