The ‘Rabla Clasic’ car scrappage program was supplemented by 4,000 electronic vouchers and the purchase continues at an extremely fast pace of some 15 vouchers per minute, Minister of Environment, Water and Forests Cristiana Pasca Palmer told a press conference on Monday.
‘The cash-for-clunkers program works very well and as a first in its history all 13,000 previously allocated vouchers have been bought. We decided to supplement as of today the ‘Rabla Clasic’ program with 4,000 vouchers and as far as I understand, the allocation pace is of 15 vouchers per minute. We’ll see if we’ll come up with yet another supplementation, depending also on the other funding lines opened for the ‘Rabla Plus’ section and the infrastructure intended for electric cars,’ Pasca Palmer mentioned.
In early July the Environmental Fund Administration (AFM) announced that all 13,000 electronic vouchers under the Program for the national car fleet renewal (Rabla Clasic – 2016) for individuals had already been booked and that the authorities were considering increasing the number of vouchers allocated to this category.
This year, the cash-for-clunkers program has two components: ‘Rabla Clasic’ – under which the buyers are offered a scrappage bonus for the purchase of a new vehicle in return for an old car, and ‘Rabla Plus’ – a new section which offers an incentive for the purchase of a new fully electric or hybrid electric vehicle, without the obligation to dispose of the old one.
The two programs have a budget of 220 million lei earmarked this year, of which 75 million lei for the ‘Rabla Plus’ extension, for the purchase of new electric and hybrid electric vehicles, as well as for the financing of the network of charging stations.
