Tax authority head Doros: Public release of major debtors halves their number

The public release of the list with major debtors to the state by the National Tax Administration Agency (ANAF) has paid off, as their number reduced to around half close to publication date, ANAF president Dragos Doros said on Thursday in Timisoara.
”We initially had 185,000 positions, but as the publication date neared in, the number halved. The effect is good. The list is being updated and clarified,” Dragos Doros told a press conference.
On the other hand, he added that tax evasion is a ‘permanent component’ in the context in which he mentioned that ANAF’s Antifraud structure, which primarily aims to fight this crime, has been in place for two years now.
”Compared to last year, Antifraud recorded a plus of 30pct in terms of number of controls and the amount of the fines levied. (…) We cooperate increasingly more with state institutions also dealing with the fight against tax evasion, prosecution offices, the Ministry of the Interior, the Customs, Border Police, respectively which all must lead to a complete system of information to effectively fight tax evasion,” said Doros.
