Radu Beligan to be buried with military honours on Saturday

Great Romanian actor Radu Beligan will be buried with military honours at the Bellu Cemetery in Bucharest on Saturday. The actor was a recipient of the Order of the Romanian Star award. The coffin will be laid in state at the National Theatre of Bucharest on Saturday at 10 a.m., the Romanian Theatre Union informs.

Actor Radu Beligan died on Wednesday at the age of 97.

In over 7 decades of activity he played famous roles from Romanian and universal dramaturgy, being considered one of the “generals of Romanian theatre.”

In December 2013 he was included in the Book of World Records as the oldest theatre actor still active.

He was honorary member of the Romanian Academy since 2004 and his star was included on the Bucharest Walk of Fame in March 2011.

During his long career, in which he played dozens of roles, he received numerous awards, including the Loyal Service Order, Grand Office rank, and France’s National Order of the Legion of Honour, Officer rank.
