Romanian woman missing in Nepal

*Romanian authorities waiting for answer from local authorities

Adina Monica Popescu, a 26-year-old Romanian woman, has gone missing over a week ago while hiking in Nepal’s Chomrong area. Romania’s embassy to India, which ensures our country’s diplomatic representation in Nepal too, has the case under scrutiny, the Foreign Affairs Ministry (MAE) announced on Sunday.

“In this sense, the Romanian diplomatic mission has urgently carried out specific overtures with the relevant local authorities in order to obtain more information about the circumstances in which the woman disappeared, with an answer from them pending,” MAE informs.

The representatives of the institution also pointed out that they are permanently in contact with the Romanian woman’s relatives and friends who have started a search campaign.

The young woman’s friends have set up a webpage where those willing can find out how they can donate. The money is needed in order to rent a search and rescue helicopter. One hour of flight costs USD 1,800. So far only 7 percent of the sum needed has been collected.

Adina Monica Popescu landed in Kathmandu, Nepal, on July 11 and was supposed to return to Romania on July 18. Her family and friends last heard from her on July 16. They are now making all efforts to find her. She was last seen after she had finished a difficult climb in the Himalayas and was heading toward the airport.
