Bucharest International Air Show 2016 to showcase Saturday 100 civilian, military aircraft

Bucharest International Air Show (BIAS), the biggest air show in Romania, will gather, at its eighth edition, 100 civilian and military aircraft and 250 pilots and skydivers from nine countries that will make spectacular air demonstrations.

BIAS 2016 will be a show of aerial force and mathematical precision, in which the aces of military and civilian aviation from Romania, but also from Spain, Ukraine, Czech Republic, USA, Greece, Bulgaria, Austria, Lithuania, will provide viewers with amazing aerial acrobatic shows and elite demonstrations, the organizers told a Friday’s conference dedicated to the event.

“I hope this edition will exceed the standards of the previous editions because we want to show that experience teaches us to reduce the drawbacks of previous editions. I hope the event will be successful and will ensure all the safety rules applicable to aviation, “said Acting Director General of the National Company Bucharest Airports, Cosmin Catalin Pestesan.

The event will take place on Saturday, on International Airport Bucharest Baneasa – Aurel Vlaicu. The entry is free.

“It is a different BIAS. There will be new shows. You will see new aircraft, many jet and powerful ones. It is a BIAS in force. There are over 100 aircraft present.

Compared to the previous years, we will have an ongoing programme. Together with the air forces we will present a dynamic programme, we will shift from motorized to non-motorized aircraft. It will be spectacular, but the public must be alerted that it will be very hot and they must take action against the heat,” said Director General of the Romanian Air Club, George Rotaru.

He added that aviation enthusiasts can also see an static exhibition that is diversified compared to the previous years.

Performing in BIAS 2016 will be also elite professionals of the Romanian Air Force. Spectators can also watch also aerial police drills and exercise of support for airborne troops carried out by the Romanian Air Force.

The air show is guaranteed by the presence of Romania’s Airclub’s aces, Hawks of Romania, Tricolor Eagles, The Pelicans, White Wings, along with the sky divers of Blue Wings team.

The artists of acrobatic flight, the Austrians with Flying Bulls, will perform with two unique aircraft – F4U Corsair and B-25 Mitchell.

Present in BIAS will also be Lithuanian pilot Jurgis Kairys, multiple world aerial acrobatics champion. During the event the famous “Acrobatic Icaruses” will perform, who are unique for their aerial performances that include pyrotechnics effects, music and lights.

On Baneasa Airport, the plane enthusiasts can visit, starting Friday, the fourth edition of the general aviation exhibition.

BIAS 2016 will close on Saturday night, after 9:30 pm, with a concert by Mircea Baniciu, Mircea Vintila and Vlady Cnejevici.

The BIAS organizers are the Ministry of Transport, through the National Company Bucharest Airports, Romania’s Air Club, ROMATSA Sports Club AIBO, the Ministry of Defence through the Romanian Air Force, and the Ministry of Economy through ROMAERO.
