Roche in Romania

Roche Group is a global pioneer in pharmaceuticals and diagnostics focused on advancing science to improve people’s lives. Driven by innovation, Roche is world’s largest biotech company, which produces truly differentiated medicines in oncology, immunology, infectious diseases and diseases of the central nervous system. We are very proud that we are treating each year around 25 million patients worldwide with our top 20 medicines.

Roche has a strong presence in Romania, going back to 1924, when the company opened the first office in Bucharest. In modern times, the representative office for the pharmaceutical division was re-opened in 1992 and the local affiliate was established in 2006. Roche offers products and services that cover the entire medical process, from prevention, treatment and post-treatment monitoring, in major therapeutic areas, like oncology, immunology, virology, central nervous system and more.

Martine Draullette, General Manager Roche Romania: “Our priority is to facilitate the access of Romanian patients to innovation in medicine”

For us at Roche, patients in Romania are at the center of everything we do: our medicines help them to live longer and better lives. We have in our portfolio innovative medicines, the results of sustained efforts in research and development which really make a difference for the patients. That is why our priority is to facilitate the access of Romanian patients to Roche innovation in medicine. We strongly believe that the Romanian patients must also benefit from the newest innovations in the field, just like the other citizens of the European Union.

We made a major step in this direction with the launch of a project that transformed our credo into reality. Starting with June, we implemented a new distribution model for some of our medicines that target serious chronic diseases. The new “Direct to Pharmacy” program was tailored for the Romanian market and patients, developed in collaboration with our partners. What is very important for the patients and also innovative for the Romanian market is that for the first time patients can receive the products, in one of the pharmacies enrolled in the program, that patients are choosing. With this program, I am very pleased to say that access to medicine is facilitated, patients having the comfort and safety of knowing they will find the medicines they need.

We hope that the Romanian healthcare system will transform soon into a patient centered system.  For this to happen, we believe that healthcare needs predictability and continuity, a long term strategy and an agreement of all actors involved, for the benefit of patients.  Innovation in medicine must be accessible to Romanians also and we believe this responsibility must be shared between the pharmaceutical industry and public authorities.
