Heat wave kills man in Vaslui

A 58-year-old man died on Tuesday afternoon in the city of Vaslui, after he collapsed under the effect of the scorching heat. The medical crew of an ambulance that responded to the distress call unsuccessfully tried to resuscitate the man at the scene for an hour, according to ‘Monitorul de Vaslui’ daily.

According to the representatives of the Vaslui County Ambulance Service, the man had collapsed on Traian Street. “When a medical crew arrived at the scene, the man was in cardiac arrest. He was known to have a cardiac condition. Specific resuscitation manoeuvres were carried out for an hour, but the patient did not respond,” Vaslui County Ambulance Service Spokesperson Aurora Popa stated on Tuesday.

Dozens of persons have been taken to hospital in recent days because of medical problems caused by the heat wave that has gripped Romania this early August.

Meteorologists have announced that at the end of this week the highs will surpass 30 degrees Celsius throughout the country and will once again reach 35 degrees in the Giurgiu area.
