Mayor Firea: Bucharesters could use school courtyards for workout

*Mayor announced she will also launch an international call for bids for bike-sharing service

The Bucharest Mayor announced on Thursday that the Bucharest City Hall and the District Mayoralties will start a pilot programme that would see school courtyards becoming “open areas” for recreation and open-air workouts.

“We’ve already made a first overture and we will invite you at the first school courtyard that will open for sport activities. It’s true, a small investment is also needed – and I’m talking about the fact that some courtyards have potholes, rocks, they’re not set up, but through a joint effort we can set up these areas. We have to ensure security and medical services for those who will come to work out,” the Bucharest Mayor explained, Agerpres informs.

Likewise, the mayor said that the Bucharest City Hall will launch in the following period an international call for bids for the bike-sharing service, which entails the construction of bicycle stations where anyone could rent a bicycle and then drop it off at the destination.

The statements were made at the “Sport for Bucharest’s Heart” sport event which took place in Tineretului Park. The event will take place every weekend in various other locations in Bucharest.
