Car registrations in Romania increased by 19.2pct from January to June 2016, up to 175,317 units, from 147,139 units, reported in the first six months of 2015, show the data released on Friday by the National Institute of Statistics (INS).
According to the statistics, on the total segment of road vehicles for the passenger transport there is an increase in new registrations by 4.9pct to 180,275 units.
Official statistics reveal that the national car fleet in Romania totaled, at end-2015, some 6.6 million units, up by 5.27pct compared to the similar period of the previous year, when it numbered 6.27 million units.
In Bucharest as many as 1.19 million motor vehicles were registered in late 2015, of which 956,664 cars.
Official data also show that, of the total of 5.15 million cars registered in Romania, 302,054 units are 0-2 years old, by 52.7pct more compared to the data released at end-2014, when 197,741 units were recorded.
Additionally, 3.48 million Romanians preferred diesel-powered cars and 2.76 million the petrol-powered ones.
