Foreign Affairs Minister Lazar Comanescu welcomed on Thursday Canada’s new Ambassador to Romania Kevin Hamilton, in which context he reiterated the request for the fast solving of the issue of visas for Romanian citizens, according to a Foreign Affairs Ministry (MAE) release sent to Agerpres.
During the meeting the two officials reviewed the main topics on the current agenda, as well as the prospects of the bilateral agenda, underlining the common interest in developing the bilateral political and economic relations, as well as the inter-human relations between Romania and Canada and in capitalising on the cooperation opportunities between the two states, according to the things agreed between Romanian Prime Minister Dacian Ciolos and his Canadian counterpart Justin Trudeau in Ottawa, on 15 June.
The release shows that the two also underscored the importance of the Romanian community of Canada – a very well integrated community in the Canadian society, with a high level of professional training – as an additional connection factor between the two states.
The Foreign Affairs Minister voiced his conviction that the EU-Canada Summit, which will take place in Brussels at the end of October, will mark the beginning of a comprehensive political and economic cooperation between the EU and Canada, on higher grounds.
The Romanian dignitary addressed the new head of Canada’s diplomatic mission in Bucharest congratulations and success wishes in fulfilling his mandate, giving him guarantees on the full support of the Foreign Ministry in conducting his activity in Romania.
The Canadian official thanked for the welcoming and highlighted the interest and the entire availability of the authorities of Ottawa in the further development of the bilateral relations in all areas, such as defence and security, but also in respect to the economic cooperation.
During the meeting, the Canadian Ambassador presented the copies of his letters of credence.
