President Klaus Iohannis on Monday sent a message to the participants in the works of the Summer University of Izvoru Muresului, through state adviser Sandra Pralong, in which he pointed out that for Romania the protection of rights of people belonging to Romanian communities is vital.
“Preserving the Romanian identity, the need to learn and pray in your language, must be our daily concern, not only at times like this, and your contribution is essential, as you represent the voice of Romanian communities. My message is simple: for Romania the protection of rights of people belonging to Romanian community is vital and the Romanian state needs your partnership to be able to support you, in its turn, in an efficient manner. A consolidated democracy is based on mutual respect, on tolerance and inter-cultural, inter-ethnic dialogue, and cultural diversity is a source of creativity. Romania represents today, from this point of view, a model, acknowledged as such in Europe and not only, the rights of the persons belonging to national minorities being fully protected,” Romania’s president’s message points out.
A number of 100 trainees belonging to Romanian communities around Romania, multiethnic and multiconfessional communities inside of Romania, as well as civil society members are participating in the Summer University works, to debate the problems of Romanians abroad, but also those of Romanians of Harghita and Covasna Counties.
