Manchester City took a big step towards the Champions League group stages with a comfortable 5-0 win away to Steaua Bucharest on Tuesday evening on the National Arena of Bucharest, in the first round of the Champions League playoff, www.mirror.co.uk reports.
Sergio Aguero twice missed from the penalty spot before eventually scoring a hat-trick while David Silva and Nolito also found the net at the National Arena .
Pep Guardiola’s side should have led inside ten minutes. Muniru Sulley hacked down Raheem Sterling in the box but Aguero’s effort from 12 yards was saved.
Five minutes later, though, City were ahead through Silva. Sterling jinked into the area and set up the Spaniard for a low, close-range finish.
Aguero had a chance of redemption when Bojan Golubovic slid in to tackle Aleksandar Kolarov in the box, missed the ball and took the Serb’s legs. City’s No.10 couldn’t take his chance though, sending the ball sailing over the bar.
The Argentine did eventually manage to get his name on the scoresheet, guiding Sterling’s lay-off into the far corner before Nolito danced round the goalkeeper to add a third.
Aguero then banished the memory of his penalty misses by scoring two late on.
