Romania’s Permanent Electoral Authority (AEP) has announced having approved, as of Tuesday, 6,081 voter registration applications submitted by Romanian voters with a domicile or residence abroad.
In a press statement released on Tuesday, AEP says 4,789 of the applications are for postal voting, while 1,292 regard voting at polling sections.
The applications originated from Spain – 2,283 for postal voting and 520 for voting at polling sections; Italy – 987 and 139, respectively; Moldova – 25 and 362, respectively; Germany – 223 and 7, respectively; France – 206 and 34, respectively; the UK – 182 and 25, respectively; Belgium – 132 and 29, respectively; Australia – 102 and 13, respectively.
AEP is calling on Romanian nationals abroad to go to the diplomatic missions or consular offices of the country to submit the necessary documents for voter registration, choosing between postal voting and voting at a polling station close to home. It is also recommending the Romanian nationals abroad to ask the Romanian Foreign Ministry (MAE) for information about the organisation and conduct of the general election outside Romania.
Under Law 208/2015 concerning election to the Senate and the Chamber of Deputies, MAE is responsible for organising the election abroad.
