The domestic seafood market amounted last year at around 35 million euro, and in 2016 it could be higher by 5pct, respectively at about 36.7 million euro, according to a specialized research sent to Agerpres on Tuesday.
So, shrimps look like leading both the sales’ amount as well as in the value.
“Shrimps ranked first in the seafood sales amount in 2015, by 30.9pct, followed by shells (16.4pct), squid (13.8pct) and octopus (8.8pct). The classification is the same as regards the values: shrimps count for 51.4pct of the seafood market, followed way behind by shells (14.2pct), squid (9.7pct) and octopus (6.9pct),” the survey carried by the Romfood Trading reads.
The research adds that the main seafood source in Romania is the tropical shrimps brought from Vietnam, India and China.
