Prime Minister Dacian Ciolos said Thursday that he will inform about the date for this year’s general election in the coming week.
“I will inform next week about the election date,” Ciolos told a news conference in Chisinau when asked whether or not he had details regarding the general election.
Governmental spokesman Liviu Iolu said Wednesday at the Government House that election date will be made public as soon as possible.
“The prime minister discussed the election date with the leaders of political parties. No decision is being considered yet, as discussions are still on with the political leaders. The election date will be made public as soon as possible, but no decision has been made yet about it. (…) The prime minister has confirmed to me there are discussions with the party leaders,” said Iolu, according to Agerpres.
Asked whether or not November 27, December 4 and December 11 are the choices for the general election date, Iolu said all these days are being considered.
“Some of them, at least November 27, pose an unconstitutionality issue in which the Government is enquiring to set the date. The tenures of the current MPs have to expire before the election is held,” Iolu explained.
