After traveling around the world, from Belgium to Australia, from South Africa to Jamaica, since 2000, the second edition of Red Bull Soapbox Race from Romania stopped on Saturday, September 3, starting at 11.00 am, in Colina Park from Cluj-Napoca (near to Polus Center). 40 crafted vehicles paraded in front of more than 15,000 people. Adrian Vancica and Mihai Rait, the well-known actors from the “Las Fierbinti” TV series, animated the audience as masters of ceremonies.
Red Bull Soapbox Race is a world full of speeders and people who love things on wheels, in general, people using their imagination, rewriting all the rules of the urban rallies. Within the race, the vehicles were moved by the members of the participating teams by pushing them, covering all the route downhill. Pushing the vehicle was allowed on the launching area only.
Teams had almost one month to build their own crafted, non-motorized vehicle. The 40 Romanian teams took seriously the challenge of Red Bull Soapbox Race and all of them gathered at the starting point. Many people thought that Halloween or Christmas came earlier, because the participants were dressed back and forth, while on the road they could see only special cars: an exact copy of MIG, Luis de Funes’ car from the “Never Play Clever Again” TV series, a guillotine, a mustardmobile or a prison on wheels are only a few examples.
The animal-shaped cars also competed on the route of the Red Bull Soapbox Race – a ceetah, a dinosaur or a shark were the four or three wheels stars. Cartoon characters, such as little mice and Pinky & The Brain, the three little pigs or Baloo the bear from the Jungle Book couldn’t miss.
In the “authentic from Romania” category competed the Fearless Shepherd, while in the “what Romanians like” category, Flori-n Salam was the sensational one.
The first Ford rally car couldn’t miss the start, showing us what means to cover a route with pilot skills.
The winner was the Migutzu No.1 team from Bucharest (Soare Ovidiu Mihail, Vecu Marius, Briota Dan Ionel and Ionescu Ionuț). They managed to impress the jury consisting in Bogdan Marișca, Roxana Ciuhulescu, Ileana Badiu and Traian Tudorica and acquired 14 points.
The second place was taken b Bootelcuta from Iasi. Bogdan Baianu, Cristi Barladeanu, Adrian Mititelu, Alex Munteanu gathered 17 points.
The third place of the podium was taken by the Mustardmobile team (Bulboaca Mihaita, Cernat Alex, Iordan Florin and Vinca Andrei) from Tecuci, with 23 points.
