Smithfield: 10 years of implementation of the support program for education “Back to school”

The “Back to School” program, initiated by Smithfield Romania in the kindergartens and schools in Timis and Arad, has arrived in the tenth year of implementation. Conceived as a sustained approach, of long-term, of support for the education and the school performance, this program has already involved, over the years, over 30,000 students from 60 towns in Timiş and Arad.

“Back to school” has already become a tradition for the students of different ages, who are waiting every year for the volunteers and the caravans with gifts consisting of school bags, sports equipment, puzzles, coloring books and various other supplies. In its 10 years of implementation of the program, the caravans “Back to School” have traveled thousands of kilometers, and the involved volunteers have accumulated over 1000 hours of activity.

“For 10 years, the” Back to School ” program has successfully put together some financial and organizational resources, the civic spirit and the desire of involvement of more than 80 volunteer participants every year, the needs of the communities to which we belong and in which we operate, the opening and the vision of our local partners – teachers, principals, school inspectors, representatives of the local authorities – and, not least, and most importantly, the joy of children to be greeted always with love and constantly supported in their educational approach. The education is the key to both personal life and career and we have the duty to pass this on to future generations” , said Bogdan Mihail, Smithfield Romania President.

The program is addressing both pupils enrolled in preschool, primary and secondary, and to the children of the company employees. In this edition, more than 6,000 students and 400 children of employees have enjoyed their received gifts.
