DefMin Motoc: First six F-16 aicraft to be officially taken over on 28 September

The first six F-16 aircraft will be officially taken over from the Monte Real Portuguese military base on 28 September, on Wednesday said the National Defence Minister, Mihnea Motoc.

“A very good discussion today with the remarkable ambassador of Portugal to Romania, Mr. Joao-Bernardo Weinstein; we have discussed, among other things, about the ways of officially marking the take over to the Romanian Air Forces’ service of the first six F-16 aircraft, on 28 September, at the Monte Real Air Base of Portugal, at the beginning of October, respectively, at the Fetesti Air Base,” Motoc wrote on his Facebook page.

In 2013, Romania decided to purchase from Portugal as many as 12 F-16 used aircraft worth 628 million euros.

According to experts, Romania needs 48 multirole fighter aircraft, meaning four squadrons.
