New concept on the restaurant market in Romania: Le Vivier, the only Oyster Bar opened in Bucharest

Recently opened, Le Vivier is a unique concept in Romania – the first oyster bar dedicated to seafood lovers. The Krystal oyster, that obtained the gold medal in 2015 in Paris and the blue lobster, are two of the specialties you can find exclusively in the restaurant located in the Dorobanti area.

Le Vivier is importing seafood of the highest quality from the local fishermen of northern France, Brittany and Normandy. All shellfish reach the restaurant alive, transported and then stored in tanks with seawater that has the same temperature and salinity of their natural environment.

“Le Vivier is the only Oyster Bar in Romania and we decided from the beginning to offer fresh products of the highest quality to those who visit us. The restaurant has a permanent stock of 5 types of oysters from the famous Gillard, Merveilles from Manche, Baie de l’enfer, Papillon to Krystal oysters, that received gold medals in Paris in 2015. We are the only restaurant in Romania that sells blue lobster, which reaches the customers table in less than 24 hours from the moment it was caught. In the restaurant menu, visitors can also find scallops, snails, crawfish, royal spider crab, Alaskan crab, shrimp and prawns. We are glad to have Mihai Dornescu in the Le Vivier team, a chef with 17 years experience in preparing seafood, that spent his last four years in restaurants in France” says Andrei Dascalu, Manager Le Vivier.

Located on the Putul lui Zamfir street in Bucharest, the restaurant also offers customers a shop and occupies an area of 100 square meters, the space was completely redone with the support of the Italian architect Mario Baldini. The special design and quality materials have attracted the attention of editors from Italian magazine of architecture Inside Art, who classified it as not just a restaurant but a place that manages to create a perfect fusion of materials to delight the senses: polished brass, iron, copper, lacquered wood, velvet and last but not least, mirrors. Furniture, display cabinets, aquariums were all custom made and specially adapted to the space, being made with the involvement of several artisans in France and Italy, the restaurant total investment amounting to 250,000 euros. Le Vivier already enjoys recognition in the UK, where it was awarded the Seafood Restaurant of the Year in Bucharest title by the Luxury Travel Guide in the Restaurant & Bar Awards 2017.

“Our passion for seafood is an old one, being importers and suppliers of seafood in HORECA for several years. The Le Vivier idea started from the fact that the interest for seafood consumption has increased and we realized that the market in Romania has no oyster bar concept which is otherwise very common especially in the countries near the ocean. In April 2015 we began the project with the support of the Italian architect Mario Baldini, we rebuilt from scratch the 100 square meters space that would become, a year later, the first oyster bar in Romania, with a capacity of 25 seats in the restaurant area and a shop specializing in seafood and other delicacies. The shop offers the first five types of caviar from famous manufacturers Maison Kaviari in Paris, a selection of smoked fish, oils, spices, cheese and butter, all handmade products” said Andrei Dascalu.

A meal for two at Le Vivier starts from 250-300 lei and includes an entree, a main dish and two drinks, while the price for blue lobster vary depending on the season from 200 to 350 lei. The oysters price start at 8 lei and can reach 19 lei per piece. The menu changes periodically so that seafood lovers can experience as many varieties as possible.
