Four Romanian White Shark soldiers injured in Afghanistan

Four soldiers of the White Shark Force Protection Battalion in Afghanistan were injured on Sunday morning by an improvised explosive devise as they were patrolling the Kandahar province of Afghanistan.

The Romanian Defence Ministry says in press statement that the soldiers were given first aid and evacuated to the military hospital at the Kandahar Air Base.

Sub-Lieutenant Florin Oprea, Private Eduard-Vlad Romila, Caporal Marcel Neagu and NCO Costica-Victor Tarnovschi are now under medical supervision in a stable condition. The battalion command made sure the soldiers can get in touch with their families by phone.

The defence minister and the chief of Romania’s army staff are said to be kept abreast of the latest developments in the injured soldiers’ condition. All measures are in place to secure the best treatment and care for the four injured, according to the statement.

Iohannis: Romanian troops in Afghanistan, peace-keeping heroes risking their lives

President Klaus Iohannis on Sunday voiced solidarity with four Romanian soldiers deployed to Afghanistan who were injured the same day, wishing them speedy recovery.

“I have regretfully learned that four Romanian soldiers have been injured today in Afghanistan. To us at home, they are peace-keeping heroes risking their lives. We all should be grateful to them. My heart goes to them and their families and I wish them good health and speedy recovery,” Iohannis said in a Facebook post.
