Gheorghe Mencinicopschi, released from prison

The former manager of the Institute for Food Research (ICA), Gheorghe Mencinicopschi, sentenced to eight years in prison in the case of the fraudulent privatization of the institute, will be released from prison. He served two years and one month of the sentence and will leave the Jilava Penitentiary today.

The decision of the parole was taken by the Ilfov Court.

In the ICA case, together with Dan Voiculescu, sentenced to 1- years in prison, the heaviest sentences, namely 8 years in prison, were received by Gheorghe Mencinicopschi, former manager of the Institute for Food Research, and Corneliu Popa, former manager of the State Domains’ Agency.

In the case of Mencinicopschi, the court also ordered the confiscation of a property he owned in Otopeni, whose value was estimated to EUR 456,000, as well as of several lands in Bucharest.
