Actor Sebastian Papaiani was buried on Thursday with military honours at the Bellu Cemetery in Bucharest City.
The actor who went down in the memory of Romanians for his parts as Pacala, Bica, as the friends would call him, will find eternal rest on the Artists’ Alley, near another sacred name of Romanian drama and film, Marin Moraru.
Welcomed to the sound of applause as the coffin entered the gate of the cemetery and carried on shoulders by a detachment of the 30th Mihai Viteazul Guard on the Artists’ Alley decked with flowers, Sebastian Papaiani was lowered into the crypt to the sound of a three-volley salute. Some hundreds of Bucharesters there, including young actors and Papaiani’s generation colleagues, applauded the actor again.
Sebastian Papaiani died on Tuesday at age 80.
He was the recipient, along with other actors, of a Faithful Service in rank of Knight national decoration presented to them on December 13, 2002, the 150th anniversary of the Bucharest National Theatre House.
