Europe has to face a tough demographic challenge. Estimations show that in the near future, one in three persons will be over 65 years old, and more than 1 in 10 will be older than 80.
In this context, the research & development project PALETTEV2 is aiming to improve the quality of life for the population aged 55 and 70, by developing an environment of participatory activities and a ICT platform dedicated to the seniors.
The PALETTEV2 is building an overall service environment, based on an online, easy to use platform that will assist older adults in staying active participants in society. PALETTEV2 will help them to find suitable jobs as professionals or volunteers, giving support even to those who want to set up a new business. Being active is mentally stimulating older people is helping them to maintain good contacts with the community they belong to, including their family and friends.
Through its platform, developed by SIVECO Romania, the projects is providing access to multimedia educational materials. At the same time, by sharing interests, thoughts and life events the project is motivating elderly people to stay connected to the family and community.
Social involvement reduces the risk for loneliness which represents an important risk factor for depression’s symptoms. Some five million UE citizens aged 55 to 74 have recently reported depressions. The project can support these millions of lonely people by giving them options easy for them to implement.
There are also good signs: in the last 10 years, in Europe, a 10.2% increase in the employment of workers of 55-64 years old was recorded. Thus, the project aims through its features to enforce the trend, keeping seniors active, willing and able to earn an income after their retirement.
The project will be implemented by partners from 4 countries, having complementary expertise: Romania, Switzerland, Netherlands and Slovenia.
