The commissars of the National Environment Guard (GNM) applied worth a total of RON 810,000 fines and forwarded 37 criminal notifications on violations in the area of Apuseni Mountains National Park, according to the institution’s data, posted on the website.

Inspections were carried out in the period between 16 October – 18 November and were a continuation of actions started in August, in the area of the Apuseni Mountains National Park, where during the previous checks several violations were found.

According to GNM, during the inspection, the environment commissars have received a notification from a group of citizens from Pietroasa village, about the mining procedure of granodiorite deposit from the Valea Lazului quarry. After the checks, the two societies that carry out their activities at the site of the quarry have been fined RON 60,000 for blocking the access on the forest road and building another road with no authorization.

Also, one of the firms was fined RON 60,000 for exploiting the quarry with no regulatory papers, whereas the second company was sanctioned RON 100,000 for provisions of non-compliance with provisions to the environment authorization. Besides, in both companies’ case, the complementary measure to suspend their activity was applied until clarification of regulatory papers.

After the investigation actions of the two companies, the GNM also drew up two criminal notifications for changing the water course in the quarry area.

At the same time, because no environmental authorization existed for collecting the water in the quarry area, that was used up to now by the people of Pietroasa, the town hall was sanctioned RON 60,000.

Furthermore, the GNM staff have issued a RON 150,000 fine to the organizers of an off-road competition as the participants have crossed the highly protected areas with no approval from the custodians of those areas.

Besides, 35 criminal notifications were executed for illegal constructions built within the integral protection area of the Apuseni Mountains National Park.

The investigation actions were led by a team of GNM General Commissariat, with participation of the commissars from County Commissariats of Arad, Cluj, Bihor and Alba, and the total value of the fines issued reached RON 810,000, also, 37 criminal notifications being formulated.

In August, following notices regarding the existence of waste materials buried in the valleys of the highly protected area of the national park, GNM staff have conducted a check to see if previously decided-upon measures were enforced. The commune halls of Budureasa, Buntesti and Lunca were issued fines worth 220,000 RON for not enforcing the aforementioned measures of clearing up the areas administered by the said commune halls.

Moreover, the Park Administration was issued fines totalling RON 100,000 for not monitoring the clean-up works, the Environment Guard mentions.
