Calin Popescu-Tariceanu elected Senate Speaker

ALDE leader Calin Popescu Tariceanu was re-elected Senate Speaker on Wednesday. He was the sole candidate, with no other political party nominating candidates for the leadership of this legislative assembly.

Of the 127 votes cast, 87 were in favour and 40 were against.

The Senators present applauded the announcement made by senior MP Leon Danaila.

“PSD’s Senate parliamentary group nominates Calin Constantin Anton Popescu Tariceanu for the Senate Speaker position,” Serban Nicolae said. PNL, USR, PMP and UDMR did not nominate candidates. The leader of UDMR senators pointed out his party would back Tariceanu’s candidacy. It was a secret ballot vote.
