Wizz Air, 23 million passengers carried in 2016

Wizz Air, the largest low-cost airline company in Central and Eastern Europe, announced that it has completed another remarkable year, with a record number of passengers, with the massive expansion of the transport network and with the global recognition of the quality of services and business. Over the past 12 months Wizz added nine aircraft to the fleet, has increased the offer by 17 new destinations and has expanded the steadily growing network with more than 100 new routes.

Wizz Air transported 23 million passengers in 2016, up to 19% from the previous year. At the end of the year, the company was connecting 134 destinations in 40 countries, with a total of 519 routes on sale. During the year, Wizz added nine ultra-efficient aircraft Airbus A321 to its fleet and created over 400 direct jobs, the total number of team members now surpassing 3,000.

The Wizz Air fleet consists of 74 Airbus A320 and Airbus A321 aircraft, operating from 25 bases in 13 countries in Central and Eastern Europe. Two additional bases, already announced in Chisinau and Varna in Bulgaria, will start their operations in March and July 2017.

In 2016, the constant development of the air carrier  and the excellent services have been recognized with internationally renowned awards. Wizz Air was named Value Airline of the Year 2016 by Air Transport World (ATW), one of the leading providers of information and multimedia services for the global market of aviation and Low Cost Airline of the Year by the Center for Aviation (CAPA), a leading provider of Information and analysis about the airline industry. The company was also registered in the International Air Transport Association (IATA), Operational Safety Audit (IOSA), the global reference organization in recognition of aviation safety.


Over 5.5 million passengers transported in Romania


In 2016, Wizz Air, the largest airline company in Romania, has transported over 5.5 million passengers on its routes with low rates in Romania, up 23% from the previous year and had operations that facilitated over 4,000  jobs in the related industries.

According to a press release, Wizz Air has demonstrated its commitment to the country, and during 2016 has opened two new bases in Iasi and Sibiu, and added two new airports, Satu Mare and Suceava, to the network in Romania, which is now composed of ten airports. For 2017 Wizz has already announced the addition of new aircraft to the bases in Cluj-Napoca and Craiova and the initiation of 15 new routes to 9 countries from Romania.

This year Wizz Air will have 22 aircraft at the bases in Romania, including 5 ultra-efficient Airbus A321 aircraft with 230 seats, and will reach 750 employees. The Wizz network in Romania is currently composed of 133 routes, including a domestic voyage between Bucharest and Cluj-Napoca.
