Overall freight traffic recorded in 2016 in Romanian maritime ports up by 5.5 percent to 59.5 million tons

The overall freight traffic recorded in 2016 in Romanian ports of Constanta, Midia and Mangalia stood at 59.5 million tones, higher by 5.5 percent than in 2015, a release of the National Company “Maritime Ports Administration” sent to Agerpres on Wednesday reveals.

The grain traffic exceeded in 2016 the record registered in 2015, which was a reference year for this sector. The last year, in the Constanta Port there were operated 20.4 million tons of grain compared to 19.61 million tons in 2015. The grain had a share, in the overall traffic of 34.3 percent, being followed by crude oil with 12.6 percent, different items with 11.6 percent, petroleum products with 9.5 percent and non-ferrous ores and waste with 5.3 percent.

Out of the overall traffic recorded in 2016, the maritime traffic was 46.19 million tons (43.6 million tons in 2015), and the one on rivers was 13.23 million tons (12.73 million tons in 2015).

For the maritime traffic the increase in the analyzed period stands at 6 percent and for the river at 3.9 percent.

Significant increases of traffic were recorded in fertilizers (from 1.84 million tons in 2015 to 2.92 million tons in 2016), oil seeds, oleaginous fruits (from 1.95 million tons to 2.91 million tons), crude oil (from 6.6 million tons to 7.5 million tons).

According to the company’s data, the traffic of solid mineral fuels dropped (from 3.2 million tons in 2015 to 2.22 million tons in 2016), as well as the one of metallic products (from 2.06 million tons to 2.04 million tons) and iron ore,scrap iron (from 2.75 million tons to 2.59 million tons).

The container traffic stood in 2016 at 6.9 million tones, 711,339 TEU respectively, compared to 2015 when 6.85 million tons were recorded, 689.066 TEU respectively. In respect to quantity, the increase is 0.7 percent, and regarding the number of TEU the increase is 3.23 percent.

In 2016, in the Romanian maritime ports a number of 14,516 ships arrived, 4,331 on sea and 10,185 on rivers.
