Romanian Armed Forces’ Chief of Staff Ciuca paying visit to US

Chief of Staff of Romania’s Armed Forces Nicolae Ciuca is paying a working visit to the US, scheduled to meet Chairman of the US Joint Chiefs of Staff Joseph F. Dunford Jr. and attend a symposium of the US special operations forces.

The meeting with Dunford Jr. is said to be a special opportunity to further the defence component of the strategic partnership between Romania and the US, with the two officials expected to discuss the importance of the Black Sea to Europe and world’s security as well as US commitments to security on NATO’s eastern flank, according to a press statement released by the Romanian Defence Ministry (MApN).

Also discussed during the visit, February 19-25, will be cooperation between Romania and the US in theatres of war, upgrading programmes for Romania’s armed forces and identifying ways to support them, says MApN.

Ciuca will attend a symposium to be held by the Global Special Operations Forces Foundation to discuss adaptation of the special forces to the new security challenges, and deliver a paper on the transformation of the special operations forces as a strategic priority for Romania’s Armed Forces.
