In a message conveyed on the occasion of the National Police Day, Minister of Interior Carmen Dan congratulates the law enforcing officers and their families, ”who feel the risks, dangers and restrictions entailed by their work with the Interior Ministry,” emphasizing at the same time that the citizens’ trust is the best indicator of the Police activity.
”We celebrate today the 195th anniversary of the Romanian Police, and throughout this period this institution has transformed in step with historical realities, adjusting its response to the various social challenges and defining its role and importance in the architecture of the public order and national security system. The National Police Day is not just the celebration of Police, but also of the citizens, of their safety and smooth existence you ensure on a daily basis. Their trust is the best indicator of your actions! The honest citizens are the best allies in the fight against crime! This is a time to recall the sacrifice of your comrades who lost their lives in the line of duty for the safety of their fellow people, a solemn moment to pay homage to the colleagues who left us too early,” Minister Carmen Dan said in her message.
“This year’s anniversary of the Romanian Police, one of the most important forces of the Ministry of the Interior (MAI), finds us in an unfortunate situation where thousands of police officers are pressing for their salary rights in the streets. This is on the one hand a sign of institutional democracy, but also a warning signal to us, the government team, to find those pay solutions capable of truly reflecting the work and risks faced by policemen. I want higher wages for police officers and for all those working in the national defence system, public order and national security. I am aware that in most cases the grievances of police officers are legitimate and I want us to find the legal solutions to address them. Unfortunately, we won’t be able to solve everything overnight, the more so as there are various regulatory acts issued as early as in 2010, which suspend the enforcement of certain benefits or rises the MAI employees should have collected,” the minister added.
Carmen Dan calls on the policemen to appoint their representatives in the working groups that will develop the new wage grids so that all sides agree on a pay level applicable as of January 1, 2018.
