PNL’s Ludovic Orban: Klaus Iohannis not to involve in election of PNL Chairman

Liberal Ludovic Orban, candidate for the Chairperson office of the National Liberal Party (PNL) stated on Saturday, in a press conference held in Cluj, that he has the conviction that the head of state Klaus Iohannis will not get involved in the internal competition of the party.

“My opinion is that President Klaus Iohannis will not get involved in this internal competition. The ones who are called to decide regarding the persons who will be part of the next leadership of the PNL are the PNL members and the 5,000 delegates who will represent each county branch in this congress,” Orban stated.

When asked if he discussed with President Klaus Iohannis on the topic of the PNL elections, he responded that his goal for the party is to win again the presidential elections.

“I am known as being a man who was involved in the first line of the battle for electing Mr Iohannis as President of Romania. I, just as the PNL, engaged, alongside President Iohannis, to put into practice a country project, which we, obviously support. As far as I’m concerned, I will set the winning of presidential elections as an objective in front of the congress, and afterwards winning the local and parliamentary elections,’ Orban mentioned.

When asked if President Iohannis has a favorite candidate for the Chairman position of the PNL, Ludovic Orban responded that the favorite will be the one who will take over the office.

“Stop asking me about this topic, I’m not the President’s spokesperson. I am convinced that the favorite of President Iohannis will be the one who will be elected by the PNL members,” Ludovic Orban concluded.
