MAE: Romanians blocked in Mexico following spontaneous protests escorted by police

The Foreign Affairs Ministry (MAE) mentions that following the demarches of Romania’s Embassy in Mexico City, the Romanian citizens that were blocked following some spontaneous protests were escorted by the police in Oaxaca while crossing the area that was occupied by the protesters.

Moreover, the MAE reveals in a release that the Romanian citizens were afterwards boarded in micro-buses put at disposal by the travel operator in order to continue their trip.

The MAE mentions that at the request of the Romanian diplomatic mission, a team of local police will escort the means of transportation, on the entire territory of Oaxaca state, in order to ensure the safe travel of Romanian tourists.

“We mention that, throughout these events, the safety of Romanian citizens was not endangered, the police teams permanently monitored how the protest actions unfolded,” the MAE reveals.

The MAE indicates the fact that since signaling the case, both Romania’s Embassy in Mexico City and the Ministry’s Central maintained a permanent contact with the group of Romanian citizens, local police, travel agency, as well as with its local partner, offering the necessary support in order to solve this case.

Also on Monday, the MAE informed that the tourists will return to the Romania on 4 April.

On 27 March, on Monday, a number of 20 Romanian citizens that were visiting Mexico got blocked in the bus, because of some local protesters.
