Liberal Ludovic Orban, running for the PNL President, stated on Saturday in a press conference held at Targu Mures that by the draft law filed in the Parliament on changing the procedure for appointing the Chef-Prosecutors, the Power aims that the Heads of DNA, DIICOT and Prosecutor General will be appointed by the Justice Minister, which is unacceptable for the Opposition.
“I have to take into account the pressures made by the Power on DNA, only in the context of the Constitutional Court’s decision. There is a draft law at the Parliament on amending the law, by which the governmental majority aims to change the procedure for appointing the Chief-Prosecutors – the Attorney General of the Prosecution Office attached to the High Court of Cassation and Justice, the Head of DNA and DIICOT. Gentlemen representing the Power would like them to be appointed by the Justice Minister, which is unacceptable from our point of view. Those from the “bailiffs association” want to remove teeth to the prosecutors with a single purpose: to be able to do what they’ve done until now. Namely to lead in their abusive style, to cut and hang by their liking and to use public resources as they wish, and this is not possible. We cannot agree with this, we cannot support such a thing” Ludovic Orban stated.
He said that, although there is a parliamentary majority that can adopt such a draft aw, PNL will challenge it to the Constitutional Court and it will use all the constitutional and legal means “not to allow political control on Justice, on courts and on prosecution offices”.
Regarding his case, instrumented by DNA, for which he was acquitted by the first court, Orban stated that he doesn’t have any fear about what’s going to happen, and he doesn’t believe it will affect his chances in the elections in any way.
“But I received a satisfactory information telling me something about DNA. The prosecutor who played with this case is not a DNA prosecutor anymore, he was “externalized”. There are serious prosecutors at DN, prosecutors instrumenting standing cases, by a professional manner, and all of them must be encouraged, and their activity must not be overshadowed by some people or others who don’t necessarily have the competence, professionalism and seriousness required by the activity inside a prosecution office as important as DNA. Somehow, it indicates me that the DNA leadership is not indifferent when some people or others are creating cases which are not standing” Orban stated.
