DefMin Les meets Ambassador Tamar Samash: Important potential for strenghtening Romanian-Israeli technical and military cooperation

Minister of National Defence Gabriel Les met on Monday Israeli ambassador in Bucharest, Tamar Samash, on which occasion the former expressed his belief that there is significant potential to enhance cooperation in preparing and training forces, strengthening strategic dialogue and military technical cooperation.

According to a press release by the Ministry of National Defence (MApN), Les emphasized the “privileged” nature of the bilateral relations based on converging strategic interests and joint values. He presented the priorities of procurement for the Romanian armed forces given the 2 pct GDP allocation to defence, and highlighted the opportunities for cooperation that opened in this context, including in the field of dual use technologies – civil and military.

“The two sides presented the positive results obtained during the visit of the Foreign Affairs ministry’s delegation to Israel, early March, and agreed on the need to timely implement activities provided for in the Plan for bilateral cooperation and the Plan for military and technical cooperation. The sides also tackled resuming the negotiations between the two ministries of Defence of the Agreement on armed forces’ status,” reads the release.
