Nicusor Dan to run for USR’s presidency at party congress in May

Save Romania Union (USR) President Nicusor Dan announced on Monday that he will run for the party’s leadership office at the party conference in May, stating he is yet to officially file his bid but will do so by April 30.

“For USR’s leadership office, I can confirm that yes, I will [run]. We – the National Bureau along with the county branch presidents – have established April 1 to April 30 as a timetable for the filing of all candidacies. Most of them will probably be filed toward the end of that period, for the [party] president and for the other offices. So far, I haven’t seen any other candidacy on the internal forum on which candidacies are proposed,” Nicusor Dan stated.

Asked whether he has officially filed his candidacy, the USR leader said he will do so in the following period.

“I’ll file it along with the platform on what I think USR should be in the following years, and I’m working on it,” Dan pointed out.

He added that a meeting between the party’s central leadership and the presidents of county branches will take place on April 22, and will discuss the party statute options that will be tabled for the party conference to approve.

“We’ll also discuss the way the elections will take place, but it’s very likely that – based on what I’m seeing now – the option of platform-based candidacies, of team-based candidacies, is ruled out. So, the word platform refers to the internal programme for USR,” Nicusor Dan concluded.
