Being an important county in terms of economy and tourism, Prahova continues to be a landmark also regarding maintaining and developing the cooperation relations between Romania and other states of the world. The proof is given including by the visits of the diplomats, the most recent one being the travel to Ploiesti made by the Ambassador of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam in Romania.
On April 4, 2017, Prahova Chamber of Commerce and Industry – in cooperation with the Embassy of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam in Romania and with the Center for Indochina Studies – organized the visit in Prahova of His Excellency Tran Thanh Cong, the Ambassador of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam in Romania. This event’s main purpose was to promote the collaboration relationships between Romania and Vietnam, as well as to present the economic and commercial climate of the Prahova County; on this occasion, detailed presentations of the Vietnamese business environment and collaboration and investment possibilities have been made.
Upon its arrival at Ploiesti, the Vietnamese delegation first met the county administration representatives, having discussions with the leadership of the County Council and the Prahova Institution of the Prefect. Thus, the President of the Prahova County Council, Bogdan Andrei Toader, presented to the Ambassador Tran Thanh Cong the opportunities of the county on the economic development, the latter making a short presentation of Vietnam, of the way in which the country has evolved in the last years, as well as of the development prerequisites.
At the end of the meeting, the Ambassador stated he was delighted by the presentation made to him, being sure that a collaboration between the two parties would be a good thing in the future. Then, a meeting between Vietnam and Prahova businessmen was held at the premises of the Prahova Chamber of Commerce and Industry; together with the delegation led by Ambassador Tran Thanh Cong, former Ambassador of Romania in Vietnam, Dumitru Olaru, the President of the Coordination Council of the Center for Indochina Studies, also attended the event. “The presence in Ploiesti of the Ambassador of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam in Romania, at the beginning of the year, make us glad, especially because Prahova celebrates in 2017 160 years since the first refinery in the world was founded. The visit of our guests from Vietnam strengthens an older relationship between Romania and Vietnam, as well as between the Chambers of Commerce and Industry of the two countries.
This is an appropriate opportunity to find out which the economic and touristic potential of the Prahova County is, and to establish a new cooperation” stated Aurelian Gogulescu, the President of the Prahova Chamber of Commerce and Industry. Ambassador of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam in Romania, Tran Thanh Cong, thanked for the invitation to visit Ploiesti, and stated: “My presence in Prahova is a new opportunity to expand the cooperation between Romania and Vietnam. It is an honor for me to participate at this event, to discuss about accomplishments, about the business policy”. In order for the audience present at the event held by the Prahova Chamber of Commerce and Industry to have an idea about the Vietnam’s potential, the Ambassador made a brief description of his country, accompanied by a presentation video.
Thus, he provided data on the state’s area and on the fact that it is formed also by 2,800 islands, the population counting 91.7 million people, 55% of them being fit to work. With the political Capital in Hanoi, Vietnam proclaimed its independence as a state early in September 1945, and later it benefitted from a wide opening in economic terms, especially outward. Thus, from an economy based on agriculture, it reached to have an economy based on economy and services. The Ambassador also mentioned that today, Vietnam has 180 cooperation relationships with the same number of states, his country being present on 230 markets of the world.
“There are 67 years of cooperation relationships between Romania and Vietnam. Vietnam is interested in implementing a fair cooperation policy, in being a reliable friend and partner worldwide. In Romania, Vietnam supports the development of this traditional partnership, especially since in the recent years, more than 3,000 Vietnamese citizens have studied in Romania, and many of them are currently holding important positions in various institutions”, the Ambassador also stated. Dumitru Olaru, as a former Ambassador of Romania in Vietnam, also confirmed that thousands of Vietnamese people have studied in the recent years, in Romania, at various Romanian universities. Being born in Prahova, he mentioned that oil professionals from Prahova have participated in Vietnam to designing wide projects, one of them being the establishment of the first refinery in this country. The former diplomat also stated that the Socialist Republic of Vietnam continues to be open to the expansion of the cooperation with Romania, being interested of various areas, such as telecommunications, energy, constructions, railways, oil and gas, food industry.
