2nd District Court decided on Thursday that the former PM Victor Ponta has to pay RON 20,000 to Lucian Isar, Alina Gorghiu’s husband, after he wrote on Facebook that Isar would have asked money from an American company to make an investment in Romania, when he was a minister. The court’s decision is not final.
“It partially accepts the complaint. It orders the defendant to pay RON 20,000 as non-material damages. It orders the defendant to pay RON 100 to the applicant, as court costs. Subject to appeal within 30 days from notice” is mentioned in the decision issued by the 2nd District Court.
In a post on Facebook dated February 2016, Ponta said that he dismissed Lucian Isar from the position of the Minister for the Relationship with the Business Environment after the intelligence services informed him about his intention to ask bribery from an American company.
“In almost four years of activity as Prime-Minister, there was only one case in which I was directly informed by the State’s specialized institutions on a clear corruption attempt of a minister – Lucian Isar, who asked for personal advantages from a big American investor in change of his support to implement an important project in Romania.”
Following this post, Isar decided to sue Victor Ponta for slander, asking him damages in amount of RON 100,000.
