Sweden is the guest of honor of this year’s edition of the International Book Fair Bookfest, held at Romexpo from May 24 to 28: “Swedish literature is one of the force pillars of the current cultural landscape, and I hope public will enjoy the expressiveness and the freshness brought by the Guest of Honor of this Bookfest edition” stated in a press release Grigore Arsene, President of the Association of Publishers of Romania, Bookfest organizer.
“We are very glad that Sweden is guest of honor at Bookfest this year! We will provide Romanians of all ages the taste of the Swedish literature and society at more than 20 interactive and informative events we prepare” stated Her Excellency, Mrs. Anneli Lindahl Kenny, the Ambassador of Sweden in Romania, through a press release.
Under the slogan “Sweden: Creating Stories”, 9 guests will come in Bucharest to attend to public readings, book launches, debates and round tables. Besides the events focused on literature, the Embassy of Sweden in Bucharest aims to turn the Sweden’s presence at Bookfest in an opportunity to think on matters like education for reading, gender equality, human rights, minorities’ integration and promoting diversity.
In addition, events dedicated to the smallest readers have a special place in the agenda of the guest country this year, at Bookfest: “We specially invite children to participate to the activities dedicated to them in the space ‘Kids Corner’of Sweden” stated H.E. Mrs. Anneli Lindahl Kenny, the Ambassador of Sweden in Bucharest.
The list with guests of honor of this year’s edition of the Bookfest Book Fair includes writers, poets and artists (book illustrators), publishers or cultural managers. A generous selection of guests, aiming to illustrate the architecture of the Swedish contemporary book, one of the most important in the world: today, the Swedish fiction is on the top 10 of the most translated literatures in the world, the books of the Swedish authors being printed in translations exceeding 50 languages. Besides, Sweden is also the literary space hosting the most prestigious literary prize of the world: the Nobel Prize for literature, awarded by the Swedish Academy.
The Sweden’s stand, since it is the guest of honor of the Bookfest Book Fair, the 12th edition, will be placed in the C4 Pavilion, while the approx. 20 events organized by the Embassy of Sweden in Romania in cooperation with its partners, will be held both at the stand and at the space for events hosted by the C4 Pavilion.
