President Iohannis wants to speak before Parliament on May 9th, 140 years since Romania declared its independence

On Friday, President Klaus Iohannis sent to the Speakers of Parliament a letter in which he asks to speak before Parliament on May 9th, the day that marks the 140th anniversary of Romania’s Proclamation of Independence as well as Europe’s Day.

“In line with the provisions of Article 88 of the Romanian Constitution, republished, I want to give before Parliament a message on the occasion of 140 years since the Proclamation of Romania’s State Independence and of Europe’s Day,” the letter reads.

Iohannis wants to give his message during the joint meeting of the two Houses of Parliament, on 9 May 2017, at noon.

President Iohannis gave a speech before Parliament on February 7 too, at the start of the new parliamentary sitting and against the backdrop of the protests that took place after the Government adopted Ordinance 13.
