Turcan: I am concerned about PNL’s future and I strongly believe that we are at a turning point. PNL can become a strong party that can provide the President also in 2020

The Interim President of the National Liberal Party (PNL), Raluca Turcan, stated on Saturday, at Sibiu, as the sole candidate for the position of the President of the Liberal Sibiu County Organization, that she is concerned about PNL’s future and that she “strongly” believes that party is at a turning point, when it can become a party to persevere at the government and to provide the President of Romania also in 2020. She added that if PNL would have been in the whole country as involved and dedicated as in Sibiu, it would have been at the government today.

“I cannot speak to you only as a candidate for the President of PNL Sibiu, but also as the PNL Interim President at national level. This position is tightly related to the capacity of the PNL Sibiu President that I had, and which, thanks to you, made our colleagues at the national level choose me to try to take the position of the Interim President, then, with the experience that I have, to try to provide an organization model for PNL which has to lead to performance, trust, solidarity for the many. (…) I am concerned about the PNL’s future, and I strongly believe that we are at a turning point. Things are set in a better extent here, in Sibiu, the turning point at national level can make the difference between PNL, the largest small party, or PNL, a strong party that will govern and persevere in governing, and provide the President of Romania also in 2020” Raluca Turcan stated on Saturday at Sibiu.

She believes that the party members have the duty, in front of the many, to prove from here, from Sibiu, that PNL can become again a reliable party at national level.

“If PNL would have been in the whole country as involved and dedicated as in Sibiu, we would have been at the government, but the teams should have had look in each organization as the one in Sibiu. You saw how things are in the country and what kind of information comes from PNL from various counties. Imagine that we were at the government. Question is if we were better than others, if we had to govern with a PNL that was looking like it looks in several counties? It’s a pressing question and the answer definitely hurts us” Turcan stated.

PNL Interim President added that the party has the opportunity to turn into the most vocal messenger of the interests of the many and of defending the law, and in the most reliable partner that certain segments of the society expect to find.

“I know we can do more things both here, in Sibiu, and at the national level, and I am going to give you an example which I know that hurts. We have the League of the local representatives at the local level, a good and performant League of the local representatives, with a President like Horatiu Racuciu, but this League was called at the national level in PNL and it was fooled that PNL will prepare a code of incompatibilities, that PNL will advocate day by day also for the interests of the mayors. This was in the past. And, unfortunately, they were abandoned. But I am sure we can work better on this. And when I will be able to decide more and in a more powerful way for PNL, after the internal elections, if I will have the support of my colleagues, this League of the local representatives will automatically transpose these issues into concrete draft laws, after a meeting with our local representatives” Turcan stated.

PNL Sibiu has four parliamentarians, 32 mayors, 30 vice mayors and more than 300 local counselors.

“PNL and President Klaus Iohannis were and are long-haul partners”

Raluca Turcan also stated on Saturday at Sibiu that PNL and President Klaus Iohannis were and are long-haul partners, adding that the party members must say “from here” what means to value a long-term partner who became President and who knows that he can find in Sibiu “a team advocating for the public interest and for the respect of the many”.

“I believe we must say from here what means to value a long-term partner, a partner who became President and who knows that when he looks at Sibiu, he finds here a team advocating for the public interest and for the respect of the many. PNL and President Klaus Iohannis were and are long-haul partners. PNL at the national level and President Klaus Iohannis are and they must be long-haul partners, but we shouldn’t solve each other’s businesses. PNL is not involved into the presidential institution and Iohannis will not design PNL’s program and provide legislative solutions” Raluca Turcan stated.

The Interim leader of the Liberals also said that PNL cannot tolerate the inactivity, the idleness in the public sector, in the social care.

“As PNL, and our mayors are models, we encourage work, the targeted support only for those who aren’t able to work. (…) As I’ve said before, there are a lot of things to be done. I know we have the capacity to do them better” Raluca Turcan added.

Turcan also said that she is concerned about PNL’s future and that she “strongly” believes that the party is at a turning point, when it can become a party to persevere at the government and to provide the President of Romania also in 2020, adding that if PNL would have been in the whole country as involved and dedicated as in Sibiu, they would have been at the government.
