In a video-conference on Thursday, Minister of National Defence Gabriel Les spoke to Romanian servicemen in the Kandahar and Kabul theatres of war, Afghanistan, on the occasion of Easter, thanking them for their job to the country, away from their families and loved ones, and under harsh conditions.
“I felt proud each time when foreign dignitaries whom I mover the past weeks spoke in laudatory terms about your activity. You promote with honor the image of Romania’s Army where it matters the most and we constantly think about you, the ones fighting with a gun in your hands, in order to fulfill the foreign commitments of our country,” Les told the servicemen, according to a statement released by the National Defence Ministry (MApN) on Thursday.
In their turn, the Romanian servicemen presented to Les an analysis of the security developments in their theaters of war, the latest developments in their missions and reported that the personnel are in good health and their morale is high.
The video-conference was attended by secretaries of state Mircea Dusa, Nicolae Nasta and Florin Lazar Vladica, Deputy Chief of General Staff Adrian Tonea, Land Forces Chief of Staff Marius Harabagiu, generals and admirals, officers with leadership positions in the central departments of the MApN.
The 151st Infantry Battalion of Iasi is currently deployed in Afghanistan. Operating alongside them are teams counseling Afghan military forces, intelligence teams, as well as special op and logistics teams.
