ALDE’s Constantin: Congress was abusively convened; I appealed against 1st court decision

In a Facebook post on Friday, Co-chair of the Alliance of Liberals and Democrats (ALDE) Daniel Constantin says he has filed an appeal against the Bucharest Tribunal’s decision to overrule his objections over the ALDE Congress convention.

“As I have already said, the Congress convened by [ALDE co-chair] Calin Popescu-Tariceanu was abusive. I have taken note of the first decision of the court, and I filed an appeal against it. There is still an ongoing court case regarding the merits that will be conducted to say in the end if Tariceanu’s behaviour and his decisions are democratic or abusive, as I have claimed they are abusive and I continue to do so,” writes Constantin.

Constantin also argues that the merger of his former Conservative Party (PC) and Tariceanu’s Reformist Liberal Party (PLR) was a failure because of Tariceanu.

“The merger that has brought ALDE has been a failure because of Tariceanu, who placed above all his personal interest and the interests of his cronies to the detriment of a serious political construction. The lawsuit continues to discard the PC-PLR merger,” says Constantin.

In a press statement released on Friday, ALDE said that the Bucharest Tribunal overruled Constantin’s request for the suspension of the ALDE Congress convention, and so the convention will go on according to the schedule on April 21-22.

“The Bucharest Tribunal on Thursday, April 13, 2017, overruled the complaint filed by Daniel Constantin and some people close to him to suspend the convention of the Congress of the Alliance of Liberals and Democrats (ALDE). Consequently, the ALDE convention will go on as scheduled by the National Standing Delegation, April 21-22,” says ALDE.
