The National Weather Administration (ANM) extended on Thursday the Code Orange of heavy rains, snowfalls and strong winds for almost all Moldova region until Friday, at 15:00 hrs.
According to the meteorologists, on Thursday, between 11:00 hrs and 15:00 hrs an advisory of Code Orange for heavy snowfalls and blizzard comes into force in 12 counties for the north-east and center of the country, namely in Suceava, Iasi, Neamt, Vaslui, Bacau, Galati, Vrancea, Covasna, Harghita, Brasov, Arges (in north) and Sibiu (in south).
Therefore, in most parts of the Eastern and Southern Carpathians, as well as in the lower area of Suceava, Neamt, Bacau and Vrancea counties it will snow and a consistent layer of snow will deposit. Temporary, the wind will intensify, picking up speeds of 50 – 60 kilometers per hour, and on mountain ridges the gust of wind will exceed 70 -80 kilometers per hour, scattering the snow. Quantities of 30 – 45 liters per square meter will accumulate.
Moreover a Code Orange was issued for heavy rains, snowfalls and layers of snow, wind intensifications in most part of Moldova and Eastern and Southern Carpathians, for the interval 20 April, 15:00 hrs until 21 April, 09:00 hrs.
Thereby, in most parts of Moldova, starting Thursday afternoon, 20 April, heavy rainfalls can occur and locally 50 – 60 liters per square meter will accumulate. The precipitations will start as rain, turning into sleet and snowfalls, and on the night of Thursday to Friday (20/21 April) snowfalls will predominate and snow layers will deposit.
In most parts of the Eastern and Southern Carpathians the snowfalls will continue and a consistent layer of snow will accumulate. The wind will have temporary intensifications, reaching 50 – 60 kilometers per hour, and on mountain peaks of over 70 kilometers per hour.
Furthermore, for the interval 20 April, 11:00 hrs – 21 April, 14:00 hrs, an advisory of Yellow Code was issued, according to which in Moldova and Transylvania snowfalls will predominate, and in north of Muntenia and Dobrogea mixed precipitations will occur. Snowfalls will continue, laying layers of snow in the mountain area. The rain quantities will exceed 20 – 25 liters per square meter and on restricted areas 40 liters per square meter. The wind will intensify temporary especially in the eastern regions, where the gust of wind will reach 55 – 65 kilometers per hour.
“The weather will be particularly cold for this period in all the regions and areas will be covered with hoar frost throughout the night of Thursday to Friday, especially in western regions, and on the night of Friday to Saturday in most parts of the country. Depending on the weather developments, the ANM will update the current release,” the ANM underscores.
