There were 5,478,666 active employees under 6,239,167 individual employment contracts in Romania as of end-2016, according to data with the Ministry of Labour and Social Justice.
Most of the contracts – 5,761,188 or 92.33 percent were concluded for an indefinite time, 4,763,323 of which were for full-time employment. Out of the 477,979 total individual employment contracts concluded for a definite time 346,181 were for full-time employment.
The highest number of active employees in Romania in 2016 – 5,521,116 – was reported on July 31, while the highest number of employment contracts – 6,288,242 – was recorded on November 30.
Data with the National Registry of Temporary Employment Agencies managed by the Labour Ministry show 379 active temporary workers as of end-2016.
In 2016, 6,041 employees had their individual employment contracts submitted by their employers under the REVISAL system, while 22,415 employees had their contracts legally submitted by employers past the legal deadline.
