Raluca Turcan: AEP won’t reimburse PNL 10 pc of money spent in parliamentary elections campaign

National Liberal Party (PNL) Interim President Raluca Turcan stated Wednesday that the Liberals will receive from the Standing Electoral Authority (AEP) a “very large” part of the money whose reimbursement was demanded, but 10 percent of the money spent in the parliamentary elections campaign will not be reimbursed.

“There is a notification (from the AEP – editor’s note); it hasn’t been officially relayed yet, but PNL will recover a very large part of the money whose reimbursement was demanded. At this moment, there is no detailing of the reasons why a part of the money is not reimbursed. The moment this detailing of reasons is made, for the party [as a whole] or for party branches, we will publish it. I’ve understood somewhere in the ballpark of 10 percent will not be reimbursed,” Raluca Turcan pointed out when asked if the AEP informed her about the reimbursement of money spent in the elections campaign.

USR is another party that will not be reimbursed a part of the money spent in the elections campaign. USR will appeal against the AEP decision not to reimburse RON 640,000 that the political party spent in the elections campaign, USR President Nicusor Dan announced. The sum was mostly collected from donations through Facebook and Google, the AEP accusing the lack of handwritten signatures.

“The USR will challenge the Standing Electoral Authority’s decision not to reimburse RON 640,000 for the elections campaign, most of which consists of donations received through the Political Financing platform built by the G2 Association and payments to Google and Facebook. AEP’s reason is that they all lack the handwritten signatures of the donors, Google and Facebook! The AEP decision sends us back to the last century, to a long-gone period when electronic payments were barely starting and were looked upon with distrust,” Nicusor Dan wrote on Facebook on Wednesday.
