Romania’s Foreign Ministry condemns Paris attack, displays solidarity with France

Romania’s Foreign Ministry (MAE) on Friday extended its best wishes to the families of the French police officers victims of a Thursday night terror attack on Champs Elysees in Paris.

“Our best wishes to the families of the French policemen. We are condemning the Paris attack and extending our full solidarity with France,” reads the MAE message posted on Twitter.


PM Grindeanu extends sympathies to family of shot Paris policeman


Romania’s Prime Minister Sorin Grindeanu on Friday extended condolences to the family of the French policeman shot dead on Thursday night in Paris.

“My sympathies to the family of the French police officer killed last night in a Paris attack. We are extending our solidarity with our French friends,” Grindeanu said in a Facebook post.

A police officer died and two were seriously wounded on Thursdays evening as they were trading fire with an attacker on the famous Champs-Elysees Boulevard in Paris. The assailant was shot dead.

Pierre-Henry Brandet, the spokesman for the French Ministry of the Interior said that just before 09:00 pm, “a vehicle stopped alongside a police van where policemen were stationed inside and outside (…) a man got out of the vehicle and opened fire on the van with an automatic weapon, fatally wounding a policeman. He ran along the pavement, shooting and wounding two other policemen. The police returned fire, killing the assailant.”


Minister Delegate Ana Birchall: Europe has the duty to remain united in front of terrorism


Minister Delegate for European Affairs, Ana Birchall condemned “firmly” on Friday the attack in Paris on the Champs-Elysees boulevard, adding that “in front of terrorism, extremism and radicalisation,” Europe must remain united.

“In front of such despicable acts we firmly condemn, in front of terrorism, extremism and radicalisation, Europe has the duty to remain united and solidary, a duty we have especially to our citizens. Like I said several times, we must prove ourselves united and determined in front of such manifestations and fight together, at European and international level, to annihilate this nowadays plague,” Birchall wrote on her Facebook page
