Paul Negoescu, the director of the Doua Lozuri (Two Lottery Tickets—e.n.) movie (2016), inspired from Caragiale’s work, is the Ambassador of the European Film Festival (EFF), thus continuing the tradition started more than ten years ago, to let the Romanian filmmakers express themselves in the European film field. The Festival has always invited them to speak in their language, the movie language, and they’ve never disappointed the public.
“For me, the cinema is a universal language and I can’t divide it by geographic areas, ethnicities or nationalities. I like in the same extent the European, American, Iranian, Japanese movies, etc. Yet, the European film has a special significance for me, because in the European movie, I find more values in which I believe. In the European movie, the author’s view prevails over the financial interest of an investor, and when the author is totally free to create, there can arise movies that are authentic, unconventional, daring, etc. Moreover, in times that seem to bring increasingly more split between people, the film industry manages to resist like a social core that brings us together, and the European movie is no exception,” said Paul Negoescu.
Paul directed the spot promoting the current edition of the festival, starting from his own idea and illustrating the passion for the European movie. Paul Negoescu, director and screenwriter, started directing with the feature called O luna in Thailanda (One Month in Thailand – e.n.) (2012), winning several international prizes for the Doua Lozuri comedy.
The European Film Festival will be held in Bucharest (May 4 to 11), Iasi (May 12 to 14), Targu Mures (May 19 to 21), Gura Humorului (May 19 to 21) and Timisoara (May 26 to 28).
The European Film Festival is organized by the Romanian Cultural Institute, under the aegis of EUNIC Romania, together with the Representation of the European Commission, with the support of the European embassies and cultural centers, of the National Art Museum, Romanian Peasant Museum/Peasant Museum Cinema, French Institute – Cinema Elvire Popesco, Czech Center, Cervantes Institute, European Public Area, UCIN and Information Office of the European Parliament.
