Vasile Blaga, heard by the National Anticorruption Directorate as witness in a case

Vasile Blaga was heard on Monday by the National Anticorruption Directorate, saying that he made statements as witness in a case from 2015 in which investigations for corruption deeds are made.

Judicial sources stated for News.ro that prosecutors of the National Anticorruption Directorate (DNA) called Vasile Blaga to make a statement as witness, without saying if it is related to an old case or to a recently opened case for corruption deeds.

DNA prosecutors indicted in 2016 several people in the case related to the presidential campaign of 2009, including Elena Udrea, Ioana Basescu, President Traian Basescu’s older daughter , Gheorghe Nastasia, Victor Tarhon, Ioan Silviu Wagner, former General Manager at Oil Terminal, and the businessman Giovanni Mario Francesco, Ioana Basescu’s former concubine.

Recently, the political consultant Dan Andronic was indicted for perjury and favoring the perpetrator, because in September 2016, when he was heard in the case related to the presidential campaign of 2009, he made false statements about the money received by his company for the political consultancy he granted in the electoral campaign, accrediting the idea that the defendants in that case didn’t committed the deeds for which they are accused.

Vasile Blaga was previously heard by DNA in April, 2016, when he made statements as witness in a case on the abuse of office related to illegal indemnification granted by ANRP.

In September, 2016, Blaga was heard again by DNA, saying at that time that he was asked by the prosecutors about his car that was involved in an easy crash on September 5, by Questor Liviu Popa, the Head of the Bihor County Police Inspectorate at that time.

Elena Udrea stated then that, although there are several denunciations in a case severed from the “Microsoft” case, in which anticorruption prosecutors are following the path of the defrauded money through the Microsoft licenses business, explaining the way by which amounts of money reached out to PDL, Vasile Blaga’s former party, DNA calls him as witness in a case related to a crash in which his car was involved.

“I talked with him on one more issue related to the financial responsibility in the ‘Microsoft’ case, on the fact that although there is a split in order to find out where the money went, everybody knows, I said it before, they can call me as witness if they want, at least part of the money were received by Mr. Blaga, for the party, of course, in Mr. Blaga’s campaign, and there are denunciations in the file, but no one is interested to follow the money” Udrea added.

She mentioned that there are denunciations made by Gabriel Sandu, Gheorghe Stefan and Dorin Cocos, but “Mr. Blaga and the others involved in that case, because there are several persons indicated who used money from Microsoft at the party, they have never been asked about those amounts”.

On November 3, 2015, Blaga went to DNA to make statements as witness in the case in which Elena Udrea is accused that she financed PDL’s electoral campaign of 2012 with money received from the businessman Bogdan Buzaianu.

On November 28, 2016,, Vasile Blaga was sent to judgment in the case of the illegal financing of PDL, in which DNA Ploiesti prosecutors accused him of influence peddling because from 2011 to 2012, when he was the PDL Secretary General and Senator, he received four times, by an interposed person, EUR 200,000 and EUR 500,000 from the former Piatra Neamt Mayor, Gheorghe Stefan.

Blaga resigned as the PNL Co-President immediately after DNA Ploiesti prosecutors started to prosecute him in this case.

DNA Ploiesti prosecutors stated in the indictment that the money received by PDL following the agreements between Blaga, Gheorghe Stefan and the businessman Horatiu Bruna Berdila, were taken through “phantom” companies whose managers, who are witnesses in the case, received commissions with values between RON 200 and RON 1,500.

DNA investigators identified several “phantom” companies in this case, which were used to take the money coming from the contract concluded by Romsys with a national company in the energy field, so that the amounts, whose total value goes up to RON 10 million, were received by PDL.
