Daniel Constantin to be kicked out of ALDE, his followers summoned to withdraw signatures from challenge against Tariceanu

The Executive Political Bureau of the Alliance of Liberals and Democrats (ALDE) decided on Thursday to propose to the Standing Delegation that Daniel Constantin should be kicked out of the party, Calin Popescu Tariceanu warning those who signed legal challenges to withdraw their signatures or be kicked out of the party in their turn too.

“I didn’t vote, my colleagues did, and this proposal will be forwarded to the Standing Delegation that will convene next Thursday. (…) The Executive Political Bureau’s decision to propose the exclusion is not one that gladdens me, but at the same time I want to very clearly warn everyone that we – my colleagues and I – are not willing to tolerate all nonsense, all aberrations said about us. We may have disputes, differences of opinion on political issues, but when all these statements are solely ad hominem attacks we exceed the normal framework of political discourse and political action, and then each one of us must mind their business,” Calin Popescu Tariceanu said.

He also had a warning for Daniel Constantin’s backers who signed the legal challenges filed against the April 22 party conference, asking them to withdraw their signatures if they want to remain party members.

“Those who signed the challenges lodged with the courts have the possibility to withdraw them by next week. If they withdraw their signatures, then we can continue on our path together; if not, each one chooses the path one thinks is best,” Tariceanu said.

On Thursday, ALDE’s Political Bureau also decided to appoint Varujan Vosganian party spokesperson and Daniel Chitoiu secretary general.

Constantin reacts: The actions against me were premeditated. I won’t accept silencing policy

Daniel Constantin reacted after ALDE’s Executive Political Bureau voted on Thursday to kick him out of the party, stating that he is almost certain the actions carried out against him were premeditated and that Calin Popescu Tariceanu has chosen to bury liberalism.

“Unfortunately, Tariceanu has remained the captive of an archaic style of politicking. He believes that 27 years after the revolution he can behave like he was doing in the 1990s. Including through the action to exclude me, Tariceanu is blackmailing his party colleagues, asking them to drop their legal actions and to certify the abuse committed. Our positions are irreconcilable because of principles. I can’t and I don’t want to form a team with a man who crushes honour and has no respect for the partnerships he forms. His past bears witness to my statements,” Daniel Constantin wrote on his Facebook page.

He stated the ALDE party conference was non-statutory and immoral.

“Today, when it takes measures against me, the leadership of the party he wanted to lead by himself is not officially validated by court. I believe, ever more, that Tariceanu’s actions against me were premeditated. He chose to bury liberalism under a heap of offices to which he appointed his servile camarilla. This is Tariceanu and this is the new ALDE, completely subordinated and obedient just like he wants to rule it. I don’t accept the silencing policy! Unlike him, I don’t lie and I don’t commit abuses. When I entered someone’s home I always showed my respect for all those I found there. (…) There are court procedures that I’ll continue to support alongside those who are by my side,” Constantin wrote.
