The Speaker of the Deputies’ Chamber stated on Thursday at the Parliament that PSD and ALDE will submit the draft law on the Statute of the Royal House no later than within two weeks, accusing the Ciolos Government of delaying to adopt this law.
“I discussed with their Royal Highnesses and I was sad to find out that after the meeting that me and Mr. Tariceanu had separately last year, when we decided to initiate a law into the Parliament at their proposal, the Ciolos Government rushed to say that they will initiate that draft law. We decided not to hurry on this, to wait the draft law to be received by the Parliament, but the draft didn’t leave the Government until today. Me and Mr. Tariceanu proposed to their Royal Highnesses that we will initiate the draft la into the Parliament, to be able to finalize what we promised” Liviu Dragnea stated.
Asked why the Grindeanu Government did nothing to this end since they took the government, Dragnea blamed the public officers who refuse to approve the draft law.
“The public officers in the Ministry are the same, those who didn’t want to approve it, I don’t know why, continue not to approve it, and I say that we shouldn’t stop because this bureaucracy” added the PSD leader.
Liviu Dragnea also said that in a very short term, “this week or the other one”, the draft law on the Statute of the Royal House will be submitted to the Parliament.
The Royal House of Romania will receive the Elisabeta Palace in free use for 99 years, and the running costs of the House will be borne by public funds, with the obligation of the Head of the Royal House, who currently is King Mihai, to submit an annual report to the Parliament, in written or personally. Today, the running costs of the Elisabeta Palace take out of the Royal House approx. EUR 5,000, wrote to Profit.ro in June, 2016, quoting the draft law on the Statute of the Royal House, on which the Government was working.
The Royal House will have an administrative service with 20 employees, also funded from the state budget, having the possibility to attract money from private sources, too.
The rules will be set by the Government through the draft law, for which the positive opinion of the Supreme Council of National Defense (CSAT) will also be required.
Legal personality is granted to the Royal House, and the position of the Head of the Royal House will be considered as public dignity; the Head of the House will continue to receive a monthly allowance similar to the one granted to a former Head of State (approx. RON 5,000). Elisabeta Palace will be in the public domain of the state and in the free use of the Royal House for 99 years.
Royal House’s projects will also be funded from the budget, as well as from its own revenues.
